Prevention of gender violence (Seminar, Brussels, 26.11.07)
The Swedish association of local authorities and regions (SALAR) organises a seminar on the prevention of gender violence at local, regional and national level, in Brussels, on 26 November 2007.
The main purpose of the seminar is to share best practices related to combating gender violence. Among the issues adressed will be how to work with violent men and how to work with youth to prevent such violence.
US expert, Jackson Katz, will address the floor on strategies to prevent violence, and Michael Brow, from the DG Justice Freedom and Security of the European Commission will present the Daphne III programme on prevention of violence against women and children.
Sandra Ceciarini will represent the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR); her intervention will focus on the responsibilities of local and regional government in preventing violence.
CEMR's charter on equality between women and men at local level addresses the issues of violence against women.
