Equality of women and men in local life

The regional Council of Bourgogne (France) is organising a European conference on gender equality in professional life, on 13 December 2007, in Dijon (France).

 

The first workshop will highlight the relationship between employment, training and the position of women in professional life. The second workshop will address the question of how to change people's perceptions and behaviours.

 

The European Charter for equality of women and men in local life, produced by the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), will also be presented.

 

Vladimír Spidla, EU Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities Commissioner Vladimir Spidla, will give an overview of the European policies in the field of gender equality.

 

Other key speakers include François Patriat, president of Bourgogne regional council, Françoise Verjux-Pelletier, member of Bourgogne regional council, and Joachim Mertes, president of the Landtag of Rhineland-Palatinate.
