Nice Attack - 18.07.2016

European towns and regions condemn the terrorist attack perpetrated in Nice
This cowardly and barbaric act is an attack on the values that we defend as Europeans.” With these words, the President of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), Iñigo de la Serna and CEMR secretary general, Frédéric Vallier, condemned the terrorist attack perpetrated in Nice on 14 July.

In a letter addressed to the Mayor of Nice, Philippe Pradal, the President of the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Christian Estrosi and the President of AFCCRE, Alain Juppé; CEMR expressed its condolences and solidarity to the people of Nice, France and all those who were affected by this terrible tragedy.

The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), its member associations and its elected representatives firmly condemn this attack. As the CEMR President and secretary general pointed out in their letter, “our towns and cities are far too often the witnesses of violent attacks, putting in danger social cohesion and collective well-being. We must condemn this violence and take action against all forms of radicalisation.

CEMR has always defended a free and democratic Europe. Today, we are mourning, we stand together in the face of adversity and wish courage and strength to our friends in France
.”

Furthermore, CEMR expresses its solidarity with all towns and cities in Europe and around the world that have recently been victims of terrorist attacks, in which hundreds of children, women and men have died.
