Energy

Europe needs secure, non-polluting and renewable energy sources, moving away from carbon-based supplies. Local and regional authorities have two main roles to play in a forward-looking energy policy.

First, as users of energy (buildings, transport) they can save energy and use renewable energies. Second, they can promote good practice via their planning powers, and through information and education services for their citizens.

CEMR works with the European Commission to promote sustainable energy policies and energy efficiency. CEMR promotes the Sustainable Energy Europe campaign and is member of the Covenant of Mayors office.
