Some 2,000 participants from 110 countries, attended the congress entitled "Changing cities are driving our world".

UCLG's new presidency has identified its priorities: protecting the environment, expanding local democracy and making the Millennium Development Goals a reality.

Delegates also adopted the Jeju Declaration that announces the next steps to ensure the voice local government is heard loud and clear on the world stage.

The final day of the congress also saw the launch of UCLG´s global report on decentralization and local democracy (GOLD), the world's first study dedicated to decentralization.
