The mound will be built between the former extermination camps: the KL Auschwitz I and the KL Auschwitz II - Birkenau. The idea was brought up in 1994 by an ex-prisoner of the KL Auschwitz and the Buchenwald, professor Józef Szajna.
The Mayor of Oswiecim, Janusz Marszalek said: We are all different, we have different attitudes towards faith and we have different opinions about the world. However, we should unite and reconcile towards Prof. Józef Szajna's noble idea. I would like to encourage the People of Good Will to participate in the idea of building the Mound of Remembrance and Reconciliation in Oœwiêcim - the City of Peace.
