European Green Capital - 12.09.2011

Your city could be the next European Green Capital for 2014 (deadline: 14 October)
European cities of more than 200 000 inhabitants, which can boast of being at the forefront of environmentally-friendly urban living, have until Friday 14 October 2011 to submit an application for the 2014 European Green Capital awards.

This award aims at rewarding cities having achieved ambitious environmental objectives, having committed themselves to environmental improvement and sustainable development, and having inspired other cities through the promotion of best practices and experiences.

Launched in 2008 by the European Commission, the title of European Green Capital has thus far been awarded to Stockholm (2010), Hamburg (2011), Vitoria-Gasteiz (2012) and Nantes (2013). The 2014 winning-city will be announced in June 2012.

Entries are assessed based on 12 indicators including transport, green areas, noise, waste, air, water consumption, eco-innovation, and energy performance. In countries where there is no city with more than 200 000 inhabitants, the largest city is eligible to apply.
