CEMR seminar: European towns and regions'finances (Stuttgart, 4 July 05)
The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) will organise a seminar on the finances of European local and regional governments. The seminar, entitled European towns and regions and their finances - self-government or new dependency?, will take place in Stuttgart, on 4 July 2005.
The mayor of Stuttgart and CEMR vice president, Wolfgang Schuster, will open the meeting, alongside the mayor of The Hague and CEMR first vice president, Wim Deetman. CEMR president and mayor of Vienna, Michael Häupl, will close the seminar.
The morning session will be about the current situation of and challenges for the finances of towns and regions. The afternoon will feature three sessions: how to conciliate increased competences with reduced resources? What local self-government without financial autonomy? What new sources of financing and investment?
