Barcelona terror attack - 18.08.2017

"The only possible answer to terrorism is to stand together in fraternity and solidarity"
CEMR expresses its deepest condolences to victims of the terrorist attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils.

"The most cowardly form of terrorism has hit once again! And once again, it has sought to strike at symbols of freedom and democracy, Barcelona, a city that stands as a symbol of Spain's return to democracy, a city of culture and diversity." With these words, CEMR secretary general, Frédéric Vallier, condemned the terrorist attack perpetrated in Spain.

In a message addressed to Barcelona's mayor, Ada Colau and the president of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, Abel Caballero, Mayor of Vigo, Frederic Vallier conveyed CEMR and its member associations' condolences to the families and relatives of the victims as well as to the people of Barcelona affected by these attacks. “We shall never let terror threaten our democratic society (…) The only possible answer to these acts is to unite and stand together in fraternity and solidarity”, the letter reads.

Our sympathy also goes out to our colleagues from United Cities and Local Governments, our World association based in Barcelona.
