European Green Capital and Green Leaf awards
Does your town or city have an ambitious strategy to become more environmentally sustainable? Are you successfully engaging local citizens in the global struggle for a healthy planet? If so, you may want to apply for the European Union’s green city awards for the years 2022 and 2023.
The European Green Leaf and Green Capital awards recognise and reward towns and cities for their environmental efforts. Contestants are judged based on their activities in a wide variety of areas, such as biodiversity, land use, air quality and noise, waste and circular economy, water, climate change, energy and mobility.
The rewards include a cash prize to be spent on environmental projects and a prestigious pan-European label.
Towns of between 20,000 and 100,000 inhabitants are eligible for the Green Leaf while cities of over 100,000 inhabitants can compete to become a European Green Capital. Towns and cities in the EU, EU candidate countries, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway and Switzerland may participate.
You can find out more and apply through this website. You have until 28 October 2020. Good luck!
