What is the role of local governments in development?
Local governments are invited to participate in the European commission's consultation on "non state actors and local authorities in development".
The consultation is based on the Commission's proposal to simplify the legislation regarding EU external action. As a result of the new legislative framework, a number of regulations, which are directly linked to supporting non state actors and local governments in development cooperation, will no longer be in force after 2006.
In this context, the EU commission has prepared a questionnaire aiming at ensuring involvement of relevant stakeholders in this preparatory process.
