Territorial governance and urban-rural partnerships (CEMR/EP conference - 12/06/2007)
The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) together with the European Parliament is organising a conference on "The Urban-Rural Dynamic: towards an integrated territorial governance", on 12 June 2007, in Brussels.
The conference will highlight the interdependence between urban and rural actors and the need to look more carefully at urban-rural relations. Common challenges, potentials and areas will be identified where cooperation is of particular importance. These include the economic development and clusters of innovation, spatial planning and nature conservation.
The conference will end up with some conclusions on the way to strengthen urban-rural partnerships and on the link between rural development policies and regional policy.
Speakers will include Michael Häupl, President of the CEMR, and Mayor and Governor of Vienna; Jean-Marie Beaupuy and Jan Olbrycht, Members of the European Parliament; Oldrich Vlasak, Member of the European Parliament, Vice-President of the CEMR; Christian Ude, Mayor of Munich, President of the German Association of Cities; Louis Le Pensec, President of the AFCCRE; as well as representatives from the OECD and of the European Commission.
