Local governments get ready for post-Kyoto climate deal
Prime Minister of Denmark, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, will participate in the 'local government climate change leadership summit", in Copenhagen, from 2 to 4 June 2009.

The 'local government climate change leadership.summit" is an important step in the preparations of the UN Climate Conference, COP15, in Copenhagen in December 2009, Prime Minister of Denmark Lars Løkke Rasmussen said.

Hundreds of towns and cities from all over the world will meet to draft a common position to be sent to the United Nations and national governments. The Local governments will be involved in a national-local dialogue to make the national governments recognise the importance of local action in national climate strategies.

Many sessions will also be organised under the general theme of climate change. The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) will host, on 3 June, a session on water management and climate change.

Confirmed speakers include Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, European Commissioner for Environment Stavros Dimas, former Prime Minister of Costa Rica José Maria Figueres, and Mayor of Paris and President of UCLG Bertrand Delanoë.
