Local Evaluation 21, the on-line assessment tool for local sustainable development processes has been officially launched at the seat of CEMR in Brussels, on 21 April 2004.

 

The project is open to all European municipalities. It consists mainly of a questionnaire that local governments must fill. The system assesses the municipality's sustainability processes, analysing its strengths and shortcomings.

 

The sum of all municipalities' experiences in this field will provide a database that will enable research on trends in local sustainability.

 

Local Evaluation 21 is a follow-up to a research project that involved 150 European local authorities committed to Local Agenda 21.

 

It will be available on the Internet in 20 languages from May 2004.
