Covenant of Mayors

2020 stands as a key moment for the EU to evaluate whether we are on track to achieve the 20% greenhouse emission reduction target set a decade ago. To keep moving ahead, the European Commission recently adopted the European Green Deal, an ambitious roadmap which aims to raise our common climate goals for 2030 and pave the way for a ‘climate-neutral Europe’ by 2050.

Today, the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting us all. Cities and regions are at the frontline of the fight against the virus. We need to rethink their economies, infrastructures and response systems while accelerating the transition towards clean energy and climate neutrality.

In this challenging and changing context, the European Covenant of Mayors has to show it can evolve to best support and empower local and regional authorities that are leading the way while planning their recovery.

We have developed a survey to collect the views of local and regional authorities on the future of the initiative, whether they are already involved in the Covenant or not. Filling in this survey should require less than 15 minutes. It is available in 23 languages.

A series of interviews and/or a working group made of local and regional representatives will complement this survey to discuss practical proposals for the future of the initiative.
