Clean Transition Dialogue - 15.03.2024
CEMR Joins European Commission's Clean Transition Dialogue: A Step Towards Sustainable Cities
The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) has participated in the Clean Transition Dialogue hosted by the European Commission's Maroš Šefčovič Cabinet. Among the distinguished speakers at this event is Diana Pretzell, First Deputy Mayor of Mannheim, representing CEMR.
According to Pretzell, meaningful involvement from stakeholders at all levels—European, national, and local—is indispensable for building resilient and sustainable communities capable of meeting the challenges of the future. The dialogue's focal points include flexible legislative frameworks, financial backing for municipalities, and enhancing EU initiatives such as the Covenant of Mayors.
As Mrs. Pretzell aptly states, "The Green Deal needs a true multi-level governance approach without silo thinking." This sentiment resonates with the overarching goal of integrating diverse stakeholders and breaking down barriers to achieve holistic sustainability objectives.
By advocating for inclusive governance structures and strategic partnerships, CEMR envisions a future where cities serve as pioneers in the journey towards a cleaner, greener planet.
