The future of urban areas - conference (3-5/05/2006, Stockholm)
Urban areas and the challenges they will be facing in the near future; this will be the main theme of the Urban Futures 2.0 conference, organised by the City of Stockholm, the Swedish Government and the European Commission.from 3 to 5 May 2006, in Stockholm.
 
The main aim of the conference is to promote new structures and tools for cities facing economic, social and environmental challenges. Furthermore, their role in the achievement of the Lisbon and Gothenburg Strategies will be explored.
 
The main speakers include European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Danuta Hubner; Swedish Minister for Democracy, Metropolitan Affairs, Integration and Gender Equality, Jens Orback, and the mayor of Stockholm, Annika Billström.

Over 40 workshops are planned for more thematically oriented discussions. Topics will include youth in cities, strategic planning and urban infrastructure. Particular emphasis will lie on the economic, social and environmental future for urban areas and structures for multi-level cooperation, cross-sector coordination and knowledge exchange. The workshops will be hosted by cities, national authorities and research institutes.

The conference will include a plenary session on democracy and dialogue.
