Mayor of London rejoins Labour party
Ken Livingstone has rejoined the Labour Party. The mayor of London had been suspended from his party for five years for standing in the local election against Labour's official candidate in 2000.
The Prime minister, Tony Blair, conceded that his predictions that Livingstone "would be a disaster has turned out to be wrong. There will be issues upon which we will have disagreements, but on the issues that concern Londoners, we are in agreement; I think he is doing a good job for London".
Ken Livingstone said this was good news for London : "This will help on a lot of projects where we have been pressing for government funding and backing".
The next mayoral election for London will take place in june this year.
