Conference on basic education in Europe (28-29/09/2006 - Helsinki)
The Association of Finnish Local Authorities and the City of Helsinki is organising a conference called "At the sources of knowledge - Competitiveness through basic education", on 28-29 September 2006 in Helsinki.
The conference will present the education delivery methods and learning outcomes in EU Member States.
The results of the PISA study (Programme for International Student Assessment) will also be presented. Directed by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the programme aims at assessing the knowledge of 15-year olds, in particular in the fields of reading, mathematics and science. It involves over 40 countries.
The first conference day will include visits to a comprehensive school in Helsinki and to the Helsinki Virtual Village on the Arabia Shore.
