PLATFORMA - European platform of local and regional authorities for development

United Nations - 23.09.2019

European local and regional leaders will call to accelerate climate action and the localisation of UN global goals
A CEMR-PLATFORMA joint delegation of local and regional politicians is attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, from from 23 to 27 September. The climate action and the implementation of the UN sustainable development goals will be at the front of the agenda, with the Climate Action Summit and the SDG Summit.

In New York, local and regional leaders will recall the same messages already shared with UN Secretary General António Guterres at the July High Level Political Forum (HLPF), when they called for accelerated action to localise the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The September HLPF will assess progress achieved so far since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda in 2015 and provide leadership and guidance on the way forward that would help accelerate implementation of the 2030 Agenda and SDGs.

This time, the CEMR-PLATFORMA delegation is attending several conferences and sessions around the Climate Action Summit and the SDG Summit, including the 2nd Local and Regional Governments’ Forum (co-organised by the Global Taskforce) on Tuesday 24.
