CEMR meetings - 25.10.2019
We are looking for towns or cities to host our next conference and congress
We invite European local and/or regional governments, in cooperation with their national association or CEMR section, to submit applications to host the following two events:
- Our next conference on “Citizens’ Engagement in Local Public Life” to be held in 2022
- Our next European congress to be held in 2024.
You may apply to host either or both of these events.
You have until 20 January 2020 to send your application. For further information contact Marta Gattini. -

Commissioner-Designate Ferreira talks the talk on local government
Elisa Ferreira, the commissioner-designate for cohesion policy and reforms, sent positive signals on local and regional government during her confirmation hearing in the European Parliament. Discussing the implementation of cohesion policy, the Portuguese politician assured that consultation with municipalities and regions during the design and delivery of EU funds is necessary for the success of regional projects. UCLG World Congress - 23.07.2019
Exchanging with local leaders from Daejon, “Asia’s Silicon Valley”
The Congress of our global organisation, United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), will take place from 11 to 15 November 2019. What about the next one? We know it will take place in 2022, but where will it be held? On 23 July, a delegation from the city of Daejon, South Korea, came to meet us to make the case that the next World Congress should be held in their city, which is nicknamed “Asia’s Silicon Valley”.
This was also an opportunity for CEMR to exchange with UCLG Asia-Pacific’s Secretary General, Dr. Bernadia Tjandradewi, as well as a representative from the Governors Association of Korea (GAOK), Maria Kim. -

Call to towns and regions for the integration of migrants
“Take part in the ‘Towns and regions for integration' initiative", stated the President of the Committee of the Regions during a seminar organised with CEMR on this topic. To date, the initiative counts more than 100 local and regional governments. It constitutes a political forum to develop and promote EU policies and funding to help with migrant integration, as well as to exchange best practices on the topic.
